Labor enforcement strengthening and outreach activity. This activity seeks to achieve results under Result 1.2.1.1. The current ATCBP is training new labor inspectors and supporting other initiatives of the Ministry of Labor. The duration of the current program is from October 2006 to September 2009. A new ATCBP will be launched in 2009 to continue to support the new labor inspection program, strengthen the systems for grievances, complaints and counseling, and other Ministry of Labor initiatives. Another important initiative is the strengthening and diffusion of labor confl ict prevention and alternative dispute resolution methods such as conciliation and arbitration, which are effi cient and rapid mechanisms and a viable alternative to achieve improved labor relations. In addition, a new labor program will be launched in 2009 to conduct outreach campaigns on basic and fundamental international labor rights as recognized by the ILO, including MSEs, and further strengthen labor enforcement systems. Forestry Sector Governance Activity. This activity seeks to reform the forestry sector to reduce illegal logging and corruption and achieve Result 1.2.2.1. A new 5-year program will be launched to support the GOP’s forest sector reforms as required by the PTPA. Private investment in conservation and sustainable management of resources Activity. This activity supports results under Result 1.2.2.2. A new 3-year program (2008 to 2010) will help forest enterprises and indigenous communities in the Peruvian Amazon to sustainably manage forests. It seeks to promote the consolidation and modernization of the forest sector in the Peruvian Amazon, particularly, forest certifi cation and fair, legal and responsible forest trade, within the framework of an effective partnership between civil society and the public and private sectors. New programs will be launched in 2009 and 2010 to equip indigenous groups and populations in sensitive ecosystems with the skills and knowledge to implement community-based and sustainable livelihoods initiatives and improve their enterprise management skills. Mitigate and Adapt to Climate Change Activity. This activity seeks to support Result 1.2.2.3 by providing support for the development and implementation of Reductions of Emission from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) projects. The activity will also help vulnerable communities to adapt to climate change, and work with all sectors to adapt to changes in water availability as a result of climate change. Initiative for Conservation in the Andean Amazon (ICAA) Activities. A number of regional environmental activities will support several activities coordinated across landscapes in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia. These activities will address biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, forestry management, and sustainable development coupled with improved governance and community participation in decision-making in accordance with public policies. Related programming will also address climate change mitigation and adaptation. Such activities will achieve Results 1.2.2.2 and 1.2.2.3. Net Zero Deforestation Zone Activities. These activities will further REDD+ programming across landscapes in Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador. They will create models for scaling up forestry and land use interventions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while fostering sustainable development at the local, national, and international levels in the Andean Amazon. Such activities will achieve Results 1.2.2.2 and 1.2.2.3. It should be noted that several of the activities in the environment and labor sectors, as well as those related to the MSEs, will be done in coordination with other entities of the Parties that have roles and competencies in the implementation of the PTPA, such as the U.S. Forest Service, the Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Labor and Job Promotion. 3. Program Area: Education Include the following new text, before the last paragraph: Other initiatives: Additional USAID funded activities that contribute to the objective of this Program Area include the MAXIMUS regional project. MAXIMUS supports the inclusion and social development of people with disabilities (PWD) by promoting quadrugby (a wheelchair sport) and by providing access to education and other social services through an internet-based social network. This network will link PWD from Peru and fi ve other countries in South America. Except as expressly amended or modifi ed in this Amendment, all terms and conditions of the original Agreement remain in full force and effect.
